Our founder, Sanghamitra Kalita, is an alumnus of NIFT Kolkata and a professional familiar with how fashion moves from concept to finished garment.
It was an opportunity to experience the industry from within and understand how collections were conceived, developed and produced at scale.

A reality that was difficult to ignore.
Behind the beauty of fashion were questions of material sourcing, environmental impact, and the connection between craftsmanship and the people whose work often goes unseen.
The answer was clear: it was time to find another way.
03 / A return to our roots
Returning
to her roots.
She left her corporate career and returned to Assam, where her story had begun.
In the rural landscapes of Assam, she found weavers, natural materials and a slower way of making that had existed for generations.

Learning from nature.
In Assam, Sanghamitra discovered natural dyes made from plants, leaves and materials shaped by hand, and fabric woven with patience.
She experimented endlessly with leaves, flowers, bark and the many colours hidden within nature.

From experiments to ecoprinting.
These experiments led to ecoprinting, a process where the natural pigments and impressions of leaves, flowers and plants are transferred onto fabric.
Because nature never repeats itself exactly, every print carries its own character. No two pieces are ever alike.

Econic's journey is connected to the women whose knowledge, patience and craftsmanship bring each textile to life.
The work aims to support opportunities for women artisans and preserve traditional skills through thoughtful making and meaningful collaboration.
